About Me

Dr. Amanullah De Sondy
I am an Assistant Professor in World Religions in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Ithaca College, New York. I led a one-year project funded by the Ford Foundation New York titled ‘Philanthropy for Social Justice in the British Muslim Societies’. I have taught Islamic Studies at Glasgow, Stirling and Strathclyde Universities. I was short-listed for the University of Glasgow Teaching Excellence Award 2007. I am a regular contributor to BBC Radio Scotland’s Thought for the Day and called upon in the national media on issues relating to Islam. I have presented Time for Reflection at the Scottish Parliament in May 2008. I completed my PhD in Theology and Religious Studies (Islamic & Qur'anic Studies) at the University of Glasgow on 'Constructions of Masculinities in Islamic Traditions, Societies and Cultures, with a specific focus on India and Pakistan between the 18th-21st Century'. I hold degrees in BA Hons, Religious Studies and Education Studies (University of Stirling), M.Litt in Islamic and Jerusalem Studies (Abertay Dundee)and credentials in Arabic, though my core interest is in Urdu and Punjabi.
