Women's Rights, Islam, Middle East

Ghada Jamshir is a Bahraini women's rights activist. She is a Muslim reformer and an ardent campaigner against the child molestation that is practiced in some Gulf states. Jamshir heads the Women's Petition Committee lobbying for a law that would shift jurisdiction over family and women's affairs from Islamic Sharia court to civil courts. She has been charged with publicly defaming the Islamic judiciary court but the charge was dropped.
